This one day summit, created by the FilipinXcellence Founder’s Circle*, is for sophomore and junior high school students in the Bay Area to learn leadership concepts and toolkits that are culturally and generationally relevant. Students will have the opportunity to hear from young and active FilAm Leaders in the community.

Eliza DuermeEliza Duerme is a B.S. Statistics graduate from the University of the Philippines (UP). She is a retired software program and engineering manager in the Bay Area spanning three large technology companies and four start-ups. A former Philippine International Aid (PIA) Board Member, Eliza loves to volunteer, travel, read, watch films and hike.

Dr. Michael M. GonzalezDr. Michael M. Gonzalez is an adjunct faculty of City College of San Francisco where he teaches Philippine Society and Culture Thru Film, The Filipino Family, and Philippine Anthropology. He is the founder of the NVM Gonzalez Writers’ Workshop and the San Francisco-based, Hinabi Project. Dr. Gonzalez graduated from the University of the Philippines (UP), and holds a Master’s Degree in Social Anthropology from Sydney University, Australia and a U.S. doctorate in Education from Fielding Graduate University, Santa Barbara, CA.

Melissa Saulog NagarMelissa Saulog Nagar earned her MS in Counseling at San Francisco State and her B.A. in Communications from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She is the Head of College Counseling at Archbishop Riordan High School. Melissa is also president of Pinay Aspirations, an organization that supports Bay Area Filipinas through education and mentoring.

Nicole-Jocelyn SanchezNicole-Jocelyn Sanchez is a Business Administration graduate from the University of San Francisco (USF). She served as president of Kasamahan at USF and was active in the San Francisco Filipino community, including the Parangal Dance Company. Nicole works at Pinterest, Inc. as a sales operating coordinator.

Mona Lisa YuchengcoMona Lisa Yuchengco is the founder and chair of Philippine International Aid (PIA). She received her A.B. – B.S.E. at Assumption College in the Philippines, and MBA from Ateneo University. She also took courses in creative writing, circulation management and publishing from UC Berkeley and Stanford. Lisa is publisher of Positively Filipino, a digital magazine, and she is also a film director/producer.
