typhoon odette (rai) aid

On behalf of the children, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  Thank you for your continued support for the children’s health and educational needs.

Just before Thanksgiving, we launched an appeal: for only $15 you can provide a Christmas gift basket for a child and his/her family.  We are proud to announce that we have so far raised $24,000 and about 2,000 children and their families will be receiving food baskets this Christmas.  Thank you to all of you who responded.

And just as we thought we would end the year with some positive news, another variant (Omicron) is threatening our health and safety. In the Philippines, another devastation has hit the Visayas and Northern Mindanao regions. Typhoon Rai (locally known as Odette) has so far claimed 375 lives with 515 injured, 56 still missing and more than 481,000 people displaced (per CNN). The typhoon brought widespread flooding and landslides, destroying entire communities, leaving hundreds of thousands homeless. According to Save the Children, nearly 4.1 million children have been affected by the typhoon. If you are still able to spare something before the year ends, please help provide tents, food, water, hygiene kits, clothing, medical supplies and other relief essentials by making a donation to Philippine International Aid. We have identified qualified NGOs to work with who have responded to this emergency. It will be a long recovery to rebuild homes and community infrastructure, but for now, the people, especially the children, need to be taken cared of.
